Castlehill Homemaker Centre

Castlehill Homemaker Centre is home to a diverse mix of large-format retailers, many of whom had high daytime energy consumption and were operating under strict electricity-supply constraints. Upgrading the site’s transformer and installing a new switchboard would have been a substantial capital expense, creating a barrier to improving energy reliability and affordability.

To avoid costly network upgrades, Clarence Greenergy delivered a behind-the-meter solution featuring a 665 kW rooftop solar array and 385 kWh of battery storage across 13 tenants. The system supplements grid supply, enabling greater use of onsite solar during peak demand and easing network constraints. As a result, tenants achieved a 40% reduction in daytime electricity costs compared to standard grid tariffs, with the project delivered at zero upfront cost. Grid electricity continues to supply the remaining demand.

The rooftop solar system generates renewable electricity, reducing reliance on grid supply and lowering Scope 2 emissions for participating tenants. Based on expected generation and grid emissions factors, it delivers meaningful carbon abatement. With around 40% of demand met onsite, tenants gain partial protection from grid price increases under the PPA, while the remaining 60% remains exposed to tariff movements.
