Castlehill Homemaker Centre in NSW is home to a diverse mix of large-format retailers, many of whom were facing significant operational pressures due to high daytime energy usage and strict electricity supply constraints.
The cost of upgrading the site’s transformer and installing a new switchboard would have been substantial, posing a major barrier to improving energy reliability and affordability. To overcome these challenges without requiring costly network upgrades, Clarence Greenergy delivered a customised behind‑the‑meter renewable energy solution featuring a 665 kW rooftop solar system paired with 385 kWh of battery storage, distributed across 13 individual tenants. This integrated system alleviated grid‑supply limitations while enabling tenants to dramatically cut daytime grid consumption. The solution allowed tenants at Castlehill Homemaker Centre to achieve a 40% reduction in daytime electricity costs, providing immediate and meaningful financial relief. Importantly, the entire project was delivered with zero capital outlay for both the tenants and the shopping centre owner, ensuring a smooth and cost‑neutral transition to cleaner onsite energy. By reducing reliance on the external network, the tenants now benefit from greater energy independence, a strong hedge against future electricity price increases, and a substantial reduction in their carbon footprint - all while avoiding expensive infrastructure upgrades and improving long‑term operational resilience.
